Recently there was a life altering event in my home town of Craven Co., NC... A small child wandered away from his great-grandmother's home and no one could find him. The relative called the local sheriff once they realized they could not find him. Shortly after a deputy arrived and the search began. That first night of the little boy's disappearance the temperatures dropped into the low 20s and upper teens. For ten hours, the temperature stayed below freezing and for most people survival would be improbable. The following day was better but still cold and for a three year old, impossible to remain calm. The day he was found (the third day) the morning began with torrential downpours, high winds, flash flooding, and it was dark and dismal. Water in ditches, canals, and in fields started to rise quickly and my guess is any marks (foot prints) left by this little boy were all washed away. Finally on the third day in the evening @ 9pm someone heard the little boy crying in the woods. He would soon be rescued and hurried off to the hospital where he would be be treated and later released. Ok so why am I telling you this? Well it all comes down to the presence of God being tangible when many people think he is nothing more than a imaginary being.
So where is my evidence? The first night of his disappearance, the little 3 year old was not dressed for extended below freezing temperatures. He was wearing a light jacket, no hat, jeans, socks (maybe) and crocks. As an adult, I would have a problem with conditions like this... several medical sources online indicate hypothermia can set in rather quickly if someone is not wearing the correct protective clothing. So with this being said, how is it that this 25lb 30" 3 year old child survived an entire night of temperatures at and below freezing? The little boy has been quoted a few times with saying he was with a bear for a couple days. How else could you explain him making it through the whole ordeal without someone (or something) watching over him? It was also known that some people saw a bear while they were searching for the child.
Ok... more evidence - As you know God made a promise long ago with Noah and with that promise a symbol of God's promise. This symbol was seen the very day he was found. God needed to reassure people and what better way, right?
The tangible part - His name is Casey Hathaway - A three year old child who survived conditions that many of us would not. We were not with Casey so we could not see or touch the bear but he did, didn't he?
So why did this happen? I found a post from someone that puts the event into perspective:
For all of you questioning the circumstances of little Casey’s miracle, not believing there was a bear with him, don’t you know it was God, it may not have been a real live bear but an image or a dream sent by God to keep that baby moving and to keep him from giving up and not feeling like he was alone, that very image kept him alive! Now I wasn’t there so I don’t know all the details but I do know the God I serve loves us and He performs miracles every day! And don’t you dare say “why did he let him get lost to start with?” It’s not our place to question what God allows to happen but it is up to us to shout His praises when He performs miracles! Casey being lost brought all kinds of people together, for a short while there was no racism, no different colors, no different nationalities, no different political sides, it was all of God’s people who came together for one purpose! That is exactly what God wants for our world today, for His people to join hands and work together. So don’t you dare question my God. And don’t you dare say there was no bear to keep that baby going! I’ve seen miracles in my own life and I certainly saw one when Casey was found. Give him the praise He deserves. He sends us signs and wonders daily because He wants us all to go to Heaven and not end up in Hell, take notice, He is letting us know we need Him..." - David Hawkins Post in Facebook
